Dusan Vlahovic: the transfer that will change everything

When a deal is made between Juventus and Fiorentina, the insults start even before the negotiations are over.

Shortly after the media reported on the planned transfer of Dusan Vlahovic, banners appeared in the stands of Artemio Franchi with insults against the striker, who was referred to exclusively as gobbo – “hunchback”. So he is called in connection with the old superstition that it is the hunchbacks who are most often lucky. This time, Juventus were accused of being sued. But not without racist antics and death threats. “Your guards won’t protect you. It’s all over for you gypsies.”

What do you think about this transfer? Will it be successful? How many goals will Vlahovic score during the season? You can do the bet app download here and then make money on your predictions.

Typical behavior from noisy ultras, of which there are enough in Italy. But so we were once again reminded how badly the two teams get along with each other. We still remember how in 1990 pogroms were staged on the streets of Florence after it was decided to sell Roberto Baggio. Mateo Renzi, the ex-premier, also took part in those processions, and admitted that there is now “mourning” in Florence.

The new president of the club, Rocco Commisso, even mentioned a deal for Baggio in 2019 – then the possible departure of Federico Chiesa was discussed with might and main. “I will not repeat the mistake that we made in the case of Roby,” the American said on the air of Il Sole 24 Ore. “Robi was the greatest player in history and we sold him for some money… for me Chiesa is our champion and we won’t sell him for 100 million euros.”

Consider all this, and the decision to sell Vlahovic for 75 million euros is hardly surprising. It’s just that now Fiorentina, which is in sixth place, is forced to fight for the European place without their – and not only – top scorer. But the club has long tried to sell the player, who has already stated that he does not intend to renew the agreement. He would have been lost anyway. In this case, at least it turned out to earn. Let’s not forget that the Serb himself had long intended to move to Turin. So the transfer is not surprising. The only surprise is that it happened now.

Vlahovic has long been considered the ideal player for Juventus. Allegri’s team scores very hard – they have only 34 goals in 23 games. But just last week, it seemed that there would be no deal – it was too expensive to spend money in a pandemic like that. And we still do not understand how a club that recently reported record losses can afford such a transfer.

So, will Vlahovic become that very leader? Is he really one of the top goalscorers in the world, along with Haaland and Mbappe? Skeptics remind that the Serbian did not play in the Champions League, but without him it is not certain that Juventus will be able to count on European competition next season at all. In 2021, he was the best striker in Serie A and in all of Europe (in the top five leagues), only Robert Lewandowski boasted the best statistics.

In Turin, they expect Vlahovic to single-handedly solve all the problems of the team. It is hard to believe in this: Allegri’s pragmatic tactics are clearly not going anywhere. Here I would like to ask a question whether such an attacker is needed for a team that will not even be able to deliver the ball to him.
